The funeral of David Sullivan was held on Thursday 19 January 2017 in Brighton. Peter Rickards and Kathy Leitch attended the funeral on behalf of the committee and supporters of ADDE (Australians for Disability and Diversity Employment) Inc. We were pleased to have the opportunity to speak about David’s ten plus years of contribution to the work and cause of ADDE, and Kathy read out sentiments posted by some of the committee.
David Sullivan was a great contributor to the advocacy of better employment for people with disabilities, both through people with MS and he has been on the ADDE committee since our formation in 2006. In his working life he was HR manager with ICI which became Orica, and his experience and advice was greatly valued. In the last couple of years his health has deteriorated very noticeably and all of us in ADDE mourn his passing and pass our sympathies to his wife Jane and their son Christy and wider family.

ADDE is committed to highlighting the individual and collective experience of people with disabilities around employment.

“If you have a disability in our country you are more likely to be unemployed, more likely to be living in poverty and more likely to be less educated than if you don't have a disability. Too easily we're overlooked and ignored. Too often the story of disability is told through unemployment and poverty. Our system is broken. We aren't doing enough”.

Kurt Fearnley, Australia Day Address 2013

The unemployment statistics continue to deteriorate at a greater rate for people with disabilities than those without.  We must ensure the politicians are accountable.
